We chose Expand Constructions for our major renovations after seeing the quality of work at one of our neighbours. After living in the house for 15 years, and wanting to stay in the area, we decided to renovate and designed the renovations ourselves.
After contacting Expand Constructions, we found the pricing negotiations with Ryan to be open and transparent, he offered innovative ideas throughout the process to enhance our plans and was happy for us to undertake parts of the works ourselves.
Working with Ryan, Mike and his contractors was a good experience with everyone taking the time to accommodate the fact we were living on site for the duration of the project. “A great experience from beginning to end.”
Our early 1900s federation home required adding a second storey facing west on a sloping block resulting in a modern up-side-down living extension completely contrasting the original architecture. Many internal alterations of the original home were included in the project to compliment the addition. Our first meeting with Mike was indicative of the great relationship during and since our major renovation which was completed in July 2017.
There was never any doubt in Mike’s ability to build our dream home and he gave us great confidence throughout the planning and building process. His laid-back yet professional manner combined with an incredible attention to detail made the entire project as enjoyable as possible, reminding us not to worry or stress – that was his job! Mike was very budget conscious and always checked that we were ok with any unforeseen costs or components which were difficult to quantify up front.
Additions to heritage homes with no “as-constructed” drawings require a degree of improvisation and Mike went over and above to ensure construction would work within constraints of the original home as well as within budget. We trusted his judgement – he took the time to listen, but was more than happy to also offer us the benefit of his advice and expertise and we were always satisfied with the outcome. Seeing the workmanship of Mike and his trades and how accommodating they were, made us appreciate just how much mutual respect there was on site. At times the project was reminiscent of a reality TV renovation show with as many as 10+ trades working around each other harmoniously.
During the construction we received many comments from our neighbours about how well it was going and how respectful and considerate the builders were of their surrounding environment, and since completion we’ve had nothing but the highest of praise for the end result. Many random passers-by have also complimented the renovation and we feel very proud of our new home.
Overall the project was completed on time and on budget despite a few significant weather events early on. Well-coordinated, well planned, and well executed – we are extremely fortunate to have met Mike and his team and be able to tell such a positive story about our experience. We highly recommend Expand Constructions, so others can tell a similar story as well.

Recently we had Expand Constructions undertake a major renovation on our Crewe Street, Bicton stone home.

Ryan Potts was the Project Manager of a renovation that was carried out in 2012 on my house in East Victoria Park. The renovations were completed on time and within the budget.
Ryan gave very sound advice regarding the build, and always gave appropriate and innovative options as to what could be achieved. Most importantly he always listened to what I wanted and worked to achieve this.
Ryan organised the other workers and contractors so that there was very little down time. If I was unhappy with some of the other contractors, Ryan would support my negotiations and sometimes negotiate on my behalf. In all cases I was happy with the outcome.
The work that was undertaken on the house was of such a high standard that even now, other tradespeople remark on the attention to detail and the quality of the renovations.
I would recommend Ryan as a professional, innovative and thoughtful project manager and builder. The work that was achieved at my house is the best I have seen!
